ERIC BRUNT MEDIA

LAST ONES STANDING PRODUCTIONS

Behind every person, there is a story. For Canada’s Second World War veterans, these stories are quickly disappearing.

Eric has set out to document the firsthand accounts of the last ones standing from World War 2.

“I always think about it. We were lucky that we made it through with all the machine guns and everything. It wasn’t that easy.

“These were young men just the same age as I was. And they were gone so fast. I think many people don’t have any clue as to what happened. It’s all part of our Canadian history.

HISTORY THROUGH STORIES

Eric has set out to preserve the stories of Canada’s last remaining Second World War veterans.

Over the last 7 years, Eric has interviewed and filmed 500+ Canadian Second World War veterans, accumulating over 700 hours of firsthand accounts. These stories document the important history that has given way to the freedoms we enjoy today.

Many of these interviews will become publicly available as the “Eric Brunt Collection” through a partnership between the Canadian War Museum and Melki Films. They will be a part of a new exhibition, a resource for students and scholars, and a legacy for future generations.

MEET THE VETERANS BEHIND THE STORIES

The average age of a Second World War veteran is 100 years old. Soon they will all be gone. These are the stories of the men and women who sacrificed their youth for our freedom.

While Eric was in university, his grandfather passed away. He realized he had no record of his grandfather’s wartime experiences. This made him wonder – what other veterans’ stories were out there, never recorded and on the verge of being lost?

ERIC BRUNT

STORYTELLER AND FILMMAKER

Eric is no stranger to crossing the country. For 13 months, Eric drove from Victoria, BC to St. John’s, NL, living out of a Ford Transit Connect. He drove across the country a second time in 2022.

Stopping in any small town that had a Second World War veteran, Eric found a passion for sharing the stories of ordinary people who did amazing things. These same individuals were never ones who sought the spotlight, or had access to it.

He is currently working on sharing these stories in a feature length documentary titled, “Under Fire.” In the future, Eric hopes to keep uncovering hidden stories and giving individuals a platform they wouldn’t normally have.
