ERIC BRUNT MEDIA

Storyteller & Filmmaker

Behind every person, there is a story. For Canada’s World War II veterans, these stories are quickly disappearing.

Eric has set out to document the firsthand accounts of Canada’s last remaining WWII veterans.

“I’ve seen so much death that I’m callous. Death doesn’t mean too much to me.”

HISTORY THROUGH STORIES

Eric has set out to preserve the stories of Canada’s last remaining Second World War veterans.

Over the last 4 years, Eric has interviewed and filmed 400+ Canadian Second World War veterans, accumulating over 600 hours of firsthand accounts. These stories document the important history that has given way to the freedoms we enjoy today.

These interviews will become publicly available as the “Eric Brunt Collection” through a partnership between the Canadian War Museum and Melki Films. They will be a part of a new exhibition, a resource for students and scholars, and a legacy for future generations.

MEET THE VETERANS BEHIND THE STORIES

The average age of a Second World War veteran is 97 years old. Soon they will all be gone. These are the stories of the men and women who sacrificed their youth for our freedom.

While Eric was in university, his grandfather passed away. He realized he had no record of his grandfather’s wartime experiences. This made him wonder – what other veterans’ stories were out there, never recorded and on the verge of being lost?

ERIC BRUNT

STORYTELLER AND FILMMAKER

Originally from the west coast of British Columbia, Eric now lives in Montreal, Quebec. He is no stranger to crossing the country. For 13 months, Eric drove from Victoria, BC to St. John’s, NL.

Stopping in any small town that had a Second World War veteran, Eric found a passion for sharing the stories of ordinary people who did amazing things. These same individuals were never ones who sought the spotlight, or had access to it.

His next trip across Canada will be focused on finding any remaining veterans he missed. In the future, Eric hopes to keep crossing the country, uncovering hidden stories and giving people a platform they wouldn’t normally have.
